The standard rules are available in English and German and come with the full version of the game.

There are also some interesting variations on the rules! We have currently documented the following:

Elimination Hextremity
Team Hextremity
Restricted Hextremity

FAQ regarding Rules

Question: The rules say that you must block the player to your left. What if you didn't see what they were up to and blocked another player by accident? First of all, this rule only applies if the player to your left has three in a straight line and is about to win without your intervention. Secondly, it does not apply if you do not see what they are up to because you are concentrating too much on your own strategy, or that of someone else. So, if you fail to block them without realising it, then they get the opportunity to win! The whole point of this rule is to prevent someone wilfully deciding to let the player to their left win, when someone else would otherwise win soon after.
For example, see the situation below, it is green's turn to play and blue is next. If green does not block blue then blue will win. However, if green does block blue then red will win because blue can not block both sides of red's 3 in a line.

If green sees that blue will win, then the rule says that blue must be blocked.

On the other hand, you might all agree to abandon this rule - feel free!

Question: Can you move one of your tiles in play before you have placed all your original 12? Normally no, unless this has been agreed by all the players at the outset.

Question: Can you pick up a tile and put it down in the same place? No. There would be no point!

Question: If some tiles have been returned to you, do you have to play them first in subsequent turns? Not necessarily. You can decide to move one of your existing tiles in play even if you have other pieces in your hand. It can often be advantageous to do this.

Question: If you lift a piece to play it and this creates a group of 'unconnected' tiles, then place it in another valid position which happens to 'reconnect' the group, what happens? In this case, the tiles stay where they are. You must not, therefore, lift a tile and automatically return the 'cut off' tiles until you have replaced the tile in play.

Question: I find it hard to remember what colours people are. What can be done? Each player should place one of their tiles in front of them at the start of the game, so everyone can see who is who.

Question: Can you introduce some form of handicap? Yes, just remove one or more tiles from a player, or players before the game starts.
